Start on SE Preston Way at the Powerline trail head and travel a short distance until you reach the Powerline trail. This section is completely open with no shade and rocks on the trail that can be hard on the ankles. About .5mi you turn left up the hill and will see a wooden turnstile that leads into the forest. The is one of my favorite parts with the transition from open air to the dense forest. There is a creek crossing and then several switchbacks up. Follow the marked signs and turn right when you hit the T. There has obviously been some work done back there as there are new stumps steps over the muddy parts that are super nice, and my brand new trail runners appreciated 😀 mucho. The trail traverses through some lovely forest with sections that have some mosquitos that are annoying but not bad. You will come across signs for Dwight's trail and others that can be taken to extend your hike. At Lingering trail take a right and you start heading back to the powerline. You can tell crews have been back there clearing the trail from fallen trees and there is fresh saw dust - BUT they did not clear the small path that leads back to the Powerline trail and it is completely blocked. We tried to find another way out, but wound up jumping over logs and letting the dogs off leash to get through the brush safely. If you don't know where you're supposed to turn you will absolutely miss it and its completely blocked with trees and brush. Back on powerline turn right and it's about a mile back to the trailhead. If you miss the cairn to the turn off on the left back to the trailhead, just keeping going and you'll go down a concrete ramp and just end up back on SE Preston Way. Didn't see a single other soul on the trail.
