**You need a permit to camp on Ross lake, and must camp in your permitted spot. **
We got permits for the May Creek boat in site and spent one night there. The hike is one of our favorites, very gentle, with minimal views of the lake. Lots of running water and creeks to cross this time of year. The lake water is still super low, so it's not possible to go down for water, however there is a nice creek near camp to get water.
May Creek boat in is permitted for one party, however at 9:30pm we were awoken to 2 people coming into our campsite and setting up their tent. We chose this site because our dog is new to camping and spooks easily so we thought we'd be alone. Unfortunately, these people startled him and he started barking and took over an hour to settle down after this. My husband even told them they were in the wrong site but they didn't care- the hiker site is just off the trail so they bypassed their site in order to crash ours. In the morning we noticed our uninvited neighbors also set up their tent in a non-designated site, and didn't bother to properly store their food in the bear box. Bad manners all around.
I found one small tick on my dog, one deer wandered through camp at night.

How was the water crossing at Roland Creek? Were you able to cross on foot or did you have to scooch over a downed tree like this time last year?

There is a flat, thin log over the creek. Honestly, you could even just walk across in your shoes, it’s probably up to my lower shins. I normally do this since I’ve never seen a log across it!
