Trip Report

Iron Goat Trail — Tuesday, May. 2, 2023

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Snow on trail - shortly after the top of the switchbacks.

Started at the Martin Creek trailhead and walked the lower grade to the Windy Cr trail switchbacks. This lower portion is in great shape. Trilliums are in bloom. No snow or muddy patches down here.

Took the switchbacks up - a bit strenuous and very exposed hillside.

Took the upper grade back to the parking lot. Snow still on the trail in places - nothing impassable if you don't mind post-holing. The trail becomes a creek in places (waterproof footwear or dry socks in the car are recommended). Some of the trail looks like it was covered during winter storms, so there are a few overgrown creek crossings - nothing particularly dangerous, would not recommend for small children.

One large blowdown, easy to get around. Trilliums on the upper trail have just started to bud.

Just over 3 hours and about 7 miles.

A few boulders to get around on the upper trail.
On-trail shower.
Trail is a creek here. Recommend waterproof footwear (or good tread and dry socks in the car).
