Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
The 3 boulders 3 miles in

Beautiful day today. There are 3 large boulders in the road 3 miles in from where the paved road ends. You can get around it with care. Be advised that as people are doing this, a deep rut is developing in the soft shoulder of the mountain that could become dangerous.  Some trees down on the trail but you can get around them.

There is intermittent snow (consolidated) starting at 4000 feet. At 4288 feet the snow is deep and consolidated all the way to Boulder Shelter. At this point, good boots, microspikes, poles, and gaiters were needed. In many places we postholed to our hips and in others we were kicking steps in. My party of 4 cut a good path all the way to the shelter in what looked like virgin snow. There were a few snow bridges over water but we knocked them down for safety and the people who'll follow with the sunny forecast over the next several days.
