Trip Report

Skyline Lake Snowshoe — Friday, Apr. 14, 2023

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Worst part of the descent (I could have stuck to the trail but I got greedy)

Ski tour! Wanted to introduce my friend to ski touring. His boots did not work out and that may have been a good thing because the ski part of this was pretty treacherous. The snow was sticky heavy slush. Easy to descend skiing while staying close to the trail: this is a good option for skier and snowshoer combo groups.  Looked like great conditions for snowshoeing!

Some other notes

  • The trail is a little steeper than I expected.
  • It was 2-3 people wide for the first 800 feet or so which is enjoyable.
  • We turned around at the lake, so can’t provide any conditions report beyond that.

Edit: returned the next day midday and in the early evening. It was a much cloudier day and the snow was more enjoyable- less sticky. Made it past the lake to the saddle, great snow there at the top for 3 turns.

Close to trailhead
Maybe 500-800 feet up from trailhead
Best part of the descent
