Trip Report

Green Mountain — Wednesday, Mar. 29, 2023

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Usually this is a nice early thaw, but today I postholed up to my chest at the Promontory. Snow began at the (unfinished, with a 5' drop lack of exit stairs) bridge across brawling cr and was not too bad until the fork to west green, which I have heard has the better view.

The normal sitting rock on the road was completely submerged, but luckily I found the perfect lounge rock exposed downslope. Waited an hour for sun that never came, until a half hour after I left. ALP really shines on a sunny spring day.

The (formerly) upper sitka spruce tr from the CCC to Green Mtn Rd has been widened to doubletrack and regraded. The 3/4 mile or so of the Green Mountain Rd was too, and is no longer winding singletrack.

Seems a bit of a waste to put all of that work into a 12+ mile out and back along gated roads to a partial valley viewpoint which is not appealing to most people, and the only reasonable route is unsanctioned. The trail probably gets a hundred visitors annually.

Road cut just before the last promontory covered in snow. Could be a problem when it's icy in next few weeks

Maddy on Green Mountain

That's an impressive amount of snow for this time of year. I think that is a testimony to how cold it's been this winter/spring since precipitation has been actually below average this year (all going to CA).
