Trip Report

Dash Point State Park — Friday, Mar. 3, 2023

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Before

I am a member of the Emerging Leaders Program for 2023 and part of my independent project is joining work parties and shadowing Zach to learn the ins and outs of being a CL and gaining more trail work experience. I joined him and group of about 10 to clear/create drains, decommission old social trail, unclog/reset culverts and clear a small land slide. We split into two groups to cover more trail. I was with Zach and we worked on an area of the Old Boundary Out 'n Back trail. This section had a good amount of mud building up so we worked on clearing that and creating new drainage. As we were working we uncovered two old culverts that were completely buried. One was broken so we had removed that. The one that wasn't broken, we decided to reset it. This part was fun to learn how to improvise with what materials we had readily available. I hope hikers notice and enjoy the work that's being put in to keep Dash Point's trails beautiful!
