Hex Mountain Snowshoe — Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Hex Mountain Snowshoe by Dunes

My friends and I decided to hike Hex Mountain today. We got there at 8:30 AM and no one else was at the parking lot. Just a note that the parking area is across from the small fire station. They have not plowed very much so the actual parking area doesn’t clear you from the road that far. It seems to be OK since there is not much traffic at this time of year.

Some trail reports noted that you need a snow park pass here now. There is no signage anywhere indicating that and I had forgotten to purchase a day pass. So we took a chance and left the car without any pass. Luckily I don’t think anyone checked. It may be different on the weekend.

After a short, walk down the road you take a right up the trail. This was a little confusing at first because the road you follow has a private property sign and gate on it. You do indeed follow these roads up so just be respectful of the private land.

Our snowshoes got a nice ride on our packs all the way up. We never had to pull them off. Hiking along the roads is easy. If you step off the side you can sink down a little bit, but never deeper than your shins. About 2/3 of the way up you leave the road and head along the ridge line on the Hex Mountain trail. This gets pretty steep but again you can just navigate it with boots.

We didn’t quite make it to the peak. Nevertheless, it was a great day out, and the views were pretty good. Surprisingly, the weather was actually better back on the west side of the mountains as we drove back in the sun :-)
