Skyline Trail Loop — Sunday, Sep. 25, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise
Heavenly

This trail is a real gem with jaw-dropping beauty in every direction. Taking screenshots beforehand and following the directions in the trail description will keep you on track. This area has quite the network of trails and it’s easy to get off course unless you’re up for exploring and want some extra mileage. The gorgeous fall colors are well on their way and will likely be max vibrancy in another week or so. The marmots were busy foraging. Bugs were way less as the temperatures start to cool, but you’ll definitely still need sunscreen if it’s a cloud-free day, not a lot of shade on this hike and the trail was dry and dusty. You’ll traverse the crowded and paved sections, hike through a more barren landscape which has its own stark beauty, and pass falls and creeks, subalpine meadows, and forest. Skyline has it all. It was a little hazy out past the Tatoosh Range and there was a cloud of wildfire smoke you could sometimes smell, but thankfully The Mountain was clear. I heard rumors of two bears near Myrtle Falls as I was hiking out but did not see them.
