Trail is snow-free and in great, but dusty shape!
Basically flat along the Phelps Creek Trail with small stream crossings, easily passible for a short-legged person and keeping toes dry. At 3.5 miles, we turned up the Leroy Creek Trail to ascend steeply on the dusty trail, with some larger rock steps, until gaining views of Seven Fingered Jack, Mount Maude and Glacier Peak and meandering through alpine meadows in bloom. Gnats and a few mosquitoes were present above 6,000', and massive horseflies started buzzing us around Freezer Pass above 7,000'.
This route requires scrambling experience, particularly on loose talus slopes.
