North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Railroad Grade by Heidi Sitton

Road was intermittently littered with pot holes. Go slow. Arrived at trail head around 6pm so parking wasn't a problem. Started up the trail around 6:30pm. River crossing was easily doable. Lots of wild flowers. Arrived at camp just below the moraine. Enjoyed incredible 360° views at sunset. Cool breese kept the bugs at bay. There were about 4 other parties dispersed in this area.
Next am we did a day hike up the moraine to the Mt Baker ascend base camp. The snow fields were easy to cross and the chill was most welcome. Plenty of water. We saw a ltter of baby marmots which was a delight. Did some scrambling towards the end. There were some patches of loose rock and shale which made it slow and cautious. We celebrated my 67th birthday at the base of Mt Baker.
