Trip Report

Mineral Creek — Wednesday, Jul. 20, 2022

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway

WTA’s Lost Trails Found Pro Crew worked on the Mineral Creek trail from 7/6/22 - 7/13/22 and from 7/20/22 - 7/23/22. The pro crew will return at the beginning of August to continue work on the trail!

We brushed a half mile of trail and transformed the corridor from a jungle of ferns and branches into a wide, easy to hike section! The trail is now brushed out until 3.5 miles from the trailhead, with more brushing to commence toward Park Lakes when the crew returns. The crew also removed 6 logs and created a drain to reroute a creek away from the trail.

The tread is not very wide in some areas, and short sections are very steep - bring poles to help with your return to the trailhead and avoid a tumble. There is also one major blowout in the tread after the 3.5 mile mark as you approach the Park Lakes, so be wary of that as well.

There are 2 creek crossings, one almost immediately as you begin hiking from the trailhead. We were able to use a log to cross, but it was also a very shallow ford. The second crossing doesn’t have a reliable log to cross, but was a quick and shallow ford for us as well.

We camped 3.5 miles up from the trailhead very close to the trail, where there was water access via the creek (the trail crosses the creek again at this spot).

Mosquitos were not bothersome at the time of our work on the trail, but we encountered a few. A few wildflowers were blooming, and the trail has some great views - there is even more to see after the brushing we just completed.

mvanderbilt on Mineral Creek

Thanks for doing this work. I just returned from a 3 day trip to Chikamin Lake and the surrounding area and was impressed by the amount of work it must have taken to clear this trail. The clearing made our hike in and out much more pleasant. And a lot of it is in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness so it must have all been done without power tools.
