The beargrass is amazing this year and is still blooming along the Kelly Butte trail. It's past its prime early in the hike once you start the switchbacks, but don't be discouraged; it's amazingly plentiful higher up!
There were no surprises on this trail based on past trip reports. It's steep but the switchbacks help, as do hiking poles. The road is quite rough at the beginning of the unpaved portion but if you go slowly you should be fine. I would recommend high clearance but we did pass a Prius, VW Bug and Corolla coming down as we were headed up. The WTA directions matched our google directions and it was no problem finding the trailhead.
As mentioned in other places, there is no privy at the trailhead. Please, please pack out your used toilet paper; it's not that difficult! Or, get a Kula cloth.
Happy Hiking!
