Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East
Bridge missing over Buck Creek

Hiked lower 2 miles of Trail #1513 from fork with Chiwawa River trail to bridge over Buck Creek. This passes through fire damaged area so heavy brush over the trail and the bridge is out.

Hope someone will report when the bridges are back up. Could you cross anyway, with caution? Combination of logs, rocks, wading? Thanks.

Buck Creek bridge out

The creek is not fordable; it was way too deep and fast. There is one remaining log from the bridge that you could straddle with your legs and get across by inch worming. But I did not try this since I was alone, I didn't want to risk that.

Discretion is the better part of valour.

Thanks. In Ross Lake NRA two weeks ago, after crawling under, over and around 110 major deadfalls across five miles of trail, we found Redoubt Creek a roaring chasm that one of us could not have saved the other from, so despite our promises to the contrary, we rescrambled our way back over the 110 trees, three jungle-like fern understories, and two icy ponds, happy to have nothing more than some bumps, bruises and scratches. (Bug bites don't count!)

Emaw2 on Buck Creek Pass

Hiked through and around #1513 to Liberty Cap August 7,8,9 the river is a pain but myself and many others are fording the river and I saw two guys walk the downed log. The river crossing is sketchy to say the least. I crossed coming and going and I'm 76. I will not be returning until the bridge is repaired though. Should not be difficult for some one of moderate ability and age.

Emaw2 on Buck Creek Pass

The crossing is the Chiwawa River not Buck Creek.
