Three Fingers — Sunday, Jul. 17, 2022

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
The vehicle -Veteran Sherman

Decided to get up early and scout out the road/trail to summit of Three Fingers for later season attempt.   Road from Mtn Loop to the washout was quite interesting with huge potholes making the drive very exciting.  Also found many occupied shooting ranges along the route.  I decided to bring my electric unicycle along to use as my approach vehicle as the distance from washout to trailhead is about 9.2 miles.  This does require some balance but once you're dialed in you can travel at very high speeds up and down these mtn roads.  I arrived at the trailhead in about 45 mins stopping enroute to enjoy the sites and sounds.  The day was cloudy and my intentions were to just examine the trail a bit.   After hiking about 2 miles (Almost to lake) i decided to turn back as routefinding on snowfield in fog was not part of my plan.  Journey back was great fun as I flew 25mph down old road ducking from alder limbs as I went.  Maybe this was the first EUC (electric unicycle) approach to this MTN.   who knows :)   Others on trail talked about snow being constant about Saddle Lake and route gets very dicey above Tin Can Gap.

Trail is quite overgrown but passable
I'll be back

Is the second washout still on the forest road? I remember there was a pretty big washout in 2021 past the bridge that would have prevented motorbikes from getting up. Wondering if that's since been repaired.

There was a couple washouts but I think you could maneuver with a dirt bike. Nothing too crazy. I walked my wheel so wasn’t too bad.
