Don't let the mileage fool you, it's no walk in the park. The trail is quite overgrown since I was last there in 2015, has flagging tape in some places, but really they are in the more obviously places than not. Route finding skills are useful here as its a scramble at times.
The road has had many washouts in the last few years, lots of work done to it, but recommend something with some clearance for a couple spots, even to get to Elizabeth.
All in all with some good weather and a little bit of luck, we got up to the lake before the next squall blew in. Although the clouds were trying to intimidate all day, running up the mountain and pouring into the lake, the sun made an appearance for a fantastic and scenic day spent at Crater Lake. Lots of frogs, but no fish.

Loved the video, brought back some funny memories. A friend took me up there twice, the first time we got lost coming back down, ended up neck deep in devils club and slime, clear down toward the river from the TH (at that time further in from Elizabeth). We did manage to follow our nose uphill and find our way back. 2nd time we used a LOT of flagging tape!(we packed out most of it). That trail looks a lot more defined than it did before, but the top still looks like the bushwhack it always was. Smart to pack a raft in, we hiked around the lake and ended up with wet boots and socks. Some unusual plants up there too as you start wading around.

I don't think it's a crater lake adventure without getting lost at some point! lol
I do highly recommend the barerun aqua's, at 180 grams you wont feel em in your pack. Thanks for watching!
