We got to exit 54 at 2:00p. The wta.org's directions to the trailhead are spot on. There are lots of potholes and rocky areas on the 4.4-mile unpaved section. There were about 10 cars parked at the trailhead along the sides of the road when we got there. We'd recommend a high-clearance vehicle, but we saw a couple sedans at the trailhead (including a zip car:)
The hike was pleasant, and the trail is very well maintained. The elevation gain is distributed quite evenly across the hike, with one steep part nearly at the summit. There is a cable to assist hikers to get up that ~30' section of trail as it's almost a scramble.
