This trail was stunning. There are really no words to describe to tells of this trails beauty. It really is one of my top favorites. Anyway, onto the report.
We got to the trailhead at a little after 10 in the morning to find a few spots still available. The walk through the forest was wonderful. It was foggy for most of it, which made for some fun and neat picture opprotunities. When we reached the boulder fields, we heard lots of pikas and saw a couple.
What I like about this trail is that it really isn't too steep. I like how its a gradual climb. Also, I don't think I've been on a trail that had so many friendly fellow hikers. Not saying that all the other hikers on the other trails are rude, but for some reason there were a ton of super friendly.
The Katwalk itself was a gem. Didn't really realize I was there until I turned around. It was so peaceful and quiet. I didn't want to leave, but sadly I had to. The view on the way down was breathtaking. That day had called for scattered thunderstorms in the area. It was fun to watch the storms build over Rainier. The way down was really brutal on the knees, so don't forget to bring your trekking poles if you want to be somewhat pain free.
