This is a great climb, particularly for someone like myself for whom this was the first real mountain ascent I've done. With a descent level of fitness, I would not say it is horribly difficult, nor technical, but it is also not easy. Proper gear and preparation are still important. We did this with an overnight at Lunch Counter, about 3k from the summit. About 4 miles from trailhead to LC and another 3 miles to the summit, according to my GPS. As previous posters have noted, glissading down saves a ton of time and is a lot of fun. We were able to glissade from the false summit almost all the way back to LC: about 2k feet of elevation. This may change as the snow fields continue to melt. Plan to melt snow for water. We lucked out on the weather, which was sunny with very little wind, but we still needed all our layers for the evening and early morning. Microspikes were sufficient. Ice axe strongly encouraged and a must if glissading.
