We arrived at 11.30 at Sunrise. Parking lot was full. luckily we got spot to park in overflow parking on rough road with lose gravel. The skies were full of clouds. Mountain was not yet out. While hiking on Surdough Ridge trail, we got see herd of mountain goats grazing in Huckleberyy basin. There were nearly 20 mountain goats. There were lot of visitors and hikers on trail to Frozen lake. We planned to hike to third Burroughs but there were snow fields to cross on twisting and turning trails of Burroughs mountain. We cross the first snow field on narrow path next to valley and soon realized if we slip then it will be a fall in to a valley of 100+feet. Snow was soft and slushy but was not worth taking a risk with kids. We decided to turn back and do Fremont Fire Lookout trail which was looking snow free from Burroughs mountain trail. While crossing the snow patch field, one direction people/hiker need to wait to let other side people pass. It was a single lane passing snowy slushy trail. We have been to Second Burroughs last year so we were not so desperate to take the risk and go there. Microspikes would have been of help. Seen many people doing in tennis shoes but it was scary seeing some of them trembling. We did Fremont Fire Lookout tower trail. Have attached the zoom pic of snow fields on Burroughs Mountain trails taken from trail to Mount Fremont Fire Lookout tower.
