We hiked on a sunny, unseasonably warm Saturday afternoon in early June. The traffic was moderate, but it was less crowded than we thought it'd be. We were surprised to find what we thought was horse scat intermittently along the trail, but other than that, the it was well maintained. We reached the falls and spent quite awhile hanging out with the camera (bring a tripod!) and without it...just enjoying the sounds and (some of the) smells. It was early enough in the year for bugs to be absent. Everything was lush and green, with the river flowing fairly strong. The bridge over the falls was in great shape. We learned from a volunteer on the way back that it'd just been repaired, with mules hauling supplies up the trail. Mystery solved!
