Trip Report

Twin Peaks (Horse Lake Mountain) — Sunday, May. 5, 2019

Central Washington > Wenatchee

This is a lovely trail!

First off, the map location of the trailhead is right on, and will get you to there. Things to note, the road eventually turns to dirt, and it is very rough and rocky, with some deep grooves that low clearance vehicles might have trouble with. High clearance vehicles recommended, otherwise it might be best to park at the beginning of the dirt and walk the additional length in, although know that there are homes there, so be cautious as to where you choose to park. The actual lot at the trailhead (you'll pass a shot up gate, then come to a closed gate, the trailhead lot is in front of the closed gate) is newly graveled and has parking spots for about 5 cars, although others can park along the sides.

This is officially a mountain bike trail, but the bikers are more than willing to share the trail with hikers, just listen for them and let them by, especially when they're coming downhill. There is a main roadway, likely used for maintenance and going up, you can follow that all the way to the summit, or branch off onto other trails. It's relatively easy to get turned around, but most of the trails lead back to the main road eventually. The little trails have more to see, in terms of wildflowers, etc. Especially this time of year. The views are excellent when you get further up.

We logged about 10 miles roundtrip and about 2,000ft of elevation gain to the summit and back to the lot. We started at 8am and finished by 1pm, but we hiked relatively slowly to enjoy the flowers, take some photos, sit on the summit for lunch, etc. It was a beautiful day!
