What a glorious hike today. Snow and ice last mile to trail head. Parking lot busy but not full, outhouse was clean and there was hand sanitizer. Trail is in great shape but super slippery past 1.4 miles. You need micro spikes. And poles. We didn’t posthole a lot as the path is pretty hard with a crust. Had our snowshoes but didn’t use them. There are lots of side trails that can cause you to end up in the wrong place if you aren’t familiar with the way. The last mile is pretty slow going with huge step ups straight up and over a large snow field. You can plot your own course once you see where you are going. This hike is totally different than during the summer, and I prefer it with snow as my knee isn’t screaming at me the whole way down! Took us 3.5 hours to go up but we stopped a lot for photos, out in 1.45 hours. Amazing views, amazing day with not a cloud in the sky!!!
