This is a gem of a hike. You get multiple “in your face” Mt St Helens views plus an awesome valley vista. If not for the smoke I’m sure we could have seen Mt Hood too. It was a really hot day but this trail is mostly shaded.The huckleberries are almost ripe. We only ran into a few people. What a peaceful and gorgeous hike!

There are some great camping spots at Butte Camp (well marked) but the fire ban does include this area so you wouldn't be able to use the nice fire pits here.
