Hadn't been to Fife's Crater in some time so decided to make the run. As usual, the trailhead area is confusing-the sign in is a few hundred feet from the horse hitching rack. Remember to keep to the left when the washout gets about 3-5' deep and you will run into the trail. Do not let the first 3/4 of a mile discourage you. While there is debris on the trail and much blowdown, some of which requires route around, the trail is not in bad shape. Rather than scramble to the crater, I decided to eat lunch on the ridge WNW of Fife and to the right of the Crow Lake Way Trail. Head toward Sheepherder Lake and when it feels right cut to the west and hopefully you will run in to a game/boot track that leads to the top of the ridge. Very little water! 12 miles, 4000'.
