This was a beautiful hike but the loop part is a little confusing. We started at the parking lot past the campgrounds, instead of by the resort. From there it’s 0.8 mi to Sol Duc Falls.
Once you reach the falls, cross the bridge and turn right. You should see the Lover’s Loop sign (and Duck Lake) within a few minutes. The first few miles are incredible. We barely saw anyone on the trail. Hiking boots are a must as there are lots of rocks and roots on this skinny path. Also, it was pretty muddy in some places.
Once you reach the resort, go through the parking lot. (Good spot for a bathroom break!) Next to the entrance there’s a nice path that goes to and through the campgrounds. Once you get through the campgrounds, the final 2 miles are really lovely again, though not as rainforest-y as the beginning of the trail.
