The trailhead is about 45 minutes south of Forks. Given how easy it is to reach (15 minutes on the highway and +/- 30 minutes on a good gravel road), we were surprised it was so deserted. We were the only car in the parking area at 11:30 a.m. on a sunny Sunday and the only people on the trail for the whole hike. The wooded, easy trail is lovely and extremely quiet besides wildlife sounds. It's fairly narrow. Some plant growth impinges on the trail (it's clearly not used much), but it's never so skinny or faint that it can't be easily followed. Found lots of salmon berries and a few blueberries. We encountered a black bear just off the trail at about 2.5 miles. Despite our making some noise, it didn't really retreat -- so we decided to turn back.
