Snow should not be a concern through summer if you are thinking about this hike. There is still a bit before the lower lake. But, the maybe 20 foot patch is easily crossed without poles or spikes. Please just kick into the soft snow, rather than walking on the new growth alongside the snow patches. There are a couple more patches of snow on the way to the upper lake, but again no poles or spikes were needed. The two campsites at both lakes are snow-free. You do have to cross a bit more of a snow field to get to the upper toilet. I post holed once getting to it. Good news... The throne is snow free and available for business! Beautiful blue skies greeted me as I arrived. What a nice place. I'm thinking of going back on Friday for Crystal Peak...

Thanks for the trip report Lincoln4! Did you happen to notice whether the trail from Upper Crystal Lake up to the PCT and Sourdough Gap was snow free? - Thanks, Stacey
