Don't like my choices...
Road suitable for all vehicles, well yes up to where it is snow covered.
Trail in good condition, well yes if you consider completely covered in snow good condition (which I do!)
I knew Glacier Creek Rd was open to mile 7 (which is normal for this time of year) so it was time for my early May hike up to Hogsback base camp. Parked and was on snow immediately. There is intermittent road showing through but I would say it is 2/3 covered the remaining mile up to the trail entrance. About 7/8 of the trail is under snow but it compact, the normal snow bridges are intact. Once above treeline (above Kulshan Cabin site) I went straight up the Hogsback. I knew to come early so the snow was still firm and I was able to walk up in the steps kicked in by the three (or more) guys in front of me. I carried my snowshoes but ended up just needing my microspikes on the way up. After sitting up top an hour or so enjoying the views I headed back down in the slushy snow, here is where I was glad I brought the flotation devices. Beautiful day on the mountain, couldn't have asked for better.
On my way out when I was back to the road at the trail entrance, there were no less than 8 people heading up. It was now almost three o'clock and they had next to no gear with them (lack of backpacks) and were wearing tennis shoes. Please, if you go up based on this report be prepared. Carry gear (warmth, shelter, food, water) and wear the proper footwear. This is a snow covered hike up the side of a mountain that is used to summit Baker.
