Trip Report

Humpback Mountain — Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Got up just in time for the sun to crest the horizon.

Was looking for a new summit on the I-90 Corridor and Humpback fit the bill.

We parked at the lower lot because we wanted the extra elevation.

Follow the road for a little more than half a mile past a bend.  On the right you will see a loose dirty trail.  It seems like the trail has washed out to some extent here.  There are a couple ways to get up, one on the left and one on the right.  They both involved loose dirt and scrambling up over an overhanging section of dirt...not too bad, just wanted to mention because it wasn't what I was expecting.  Past that the trail is obvious but nice and steep!  A few downed trees but nothing memorable.  The trail is a bit slick with pine needles but not bad.  The higher you get the more fun it gets, turning a bit scrambly in parts with more views.  I felt like we were very close to topping out for a long time, kind of misleading that way.  At the top make sure to continue south for a 100 ft or so to get to the summit register, and even further for a great view of Rainier.

Definitely a worthy outing and one to avoid the normal I-90 crowds.

4 mi, 2750 ft elevation gain

Just under an hour on the way up & ~40 minutes down - most hikers should expect to take 3-4 hours RT

Sweet views of Rainier at multiple spots
The washed out section of trail. Go left or right to get up to the trail above.
