Did the 4.2 mile hike Sunday morning in the rain with the hubby and our 3 dogs. Got to the trailhead around 10 and were the only ones in the parking lot. Most of the trail is in good condition. However, there were several puddles (but only a few that were slightly challenging to get around) and there were also a few spots where it felt like you were following a stream because there was so much water on the trail. There was also one bridge/log crossing where water was overtopping the path (see picture). Got my feet wet here but didn't feel dangerous or slippery. On the plus side, the trail wasn't muddy - just wet, which I prefer to the mud. (On a side note, the wet trail conditions make sense for this weekend since we had heavy rain. Drainage looked good so if we have a few dry days or just days with less rain, I bet there will be much less standing water on the trail.)
A few other things to note:
- The falls were starting to come back but I'm sure it will be much bigger in another few weeks.
- Not much fall foliage throughout the hike, but there was some areas that were bright yellow.
- Saw a mountain biker and someone picking mushrooms on our way out.
Overall, a great hike. Next time, I'll do the longer one.
