Trip Report

Heliotrope Ridge — Monday, Sep. 4, 2017

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

First off the forest road is in pretty good shape probably 75% of it is paved. There is also a nice bathroom at the trail head.

This is an awesome hike if you want to see some glacier action. Its not a very long or hard hike and you get some great views for your effort. The only hard part about this hike is trying to ford one of the last streams you must cross before you can get to the views. There is no bridge and the water is moving at a good speed due to the warm weather and plenty of snow to feed it. The water isn’t exactly deep but the stream is wide enough that navigation is tricky. I went probably 300-400 feet up stream to cross. Many people did not want to take the risk, if your feeling adventurous and know your limits its well worth the adventure. I was able to get across without getting my feet wet but it does take some searching to find the right path across the water. Just don’t be that person that needs search and rescue to get you back across lol.
