Amazing 17 mile journey from Oil City Hoh River to Third Beach. We did it in two nights, but some might prefer 3 nights, as it can be slow going at times.
I wrote "trail in good condition" but this is not without challenges of ups and downs and ropes and a few low tide crossings . Especially tiresome, but fun, is the 3.5 miles overland near the south end, not simple, but at least not much mud at this time. I have done this trail in June or even July when it is really muddy.
There is really only one place to be aware of tides, right at the southernmost start (or finish if you go north to south). We timed it right with the low tide and enjoyed the challenge of climbing over some rocks, but make sure it is a low tide. There is a nice little beach for camping (maybe no water though) just after you finish the first tough two miles from the south (we started very later, like 6pm, for the second low tide of the day). Or you could stay right at Hoh River, on the beach, before or after your trip.
We messed up near the north end by trying to do the rocky sea route, and had to return and found the overland route north, up and over, much better than the possibly impassable sea route, just before Third Beach.
Lots more people and campers near the northern areas, from Toleak Point north. More privacy on southern end.
Lastly, we were mostly in fog (and smoke from Canada fires) so it was a bit cool.
