Grand Valley Loop — Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast

After driving the 8 miles on gravel from Hurricane Ridge (rough but scenic) we chose the counter clockwise loop for this 8.5 mile trip. Basically this is a down and then back up trip, although there are also some ups and downs. We went right, up and over, and then down down down to Grand Valley. camping at Moose Lake, which has at least 6 campsites we saw.

Lots of deer. I've seen a bear here before, but not this time, but they are around, as another camper saw one. Lots of marmots, very cute.

We stayed at the very first campsite at Moose Lake, separate from the rest, overlooking the lake but above it a tad, with the sound of running water from the lake, which I like to sleep by.

Definitely take a walk up towards Grand Pass if you have any time and energy. It is fabulous, even if you go half a mile. The pass is probably a couple miles uphill, but awesome.

Bugs we bothering some people, but not terrible.

We went back via the Badger Valley route, which surprised us by going down quite a bit, maybe close to 1,000 feet, and then up up up at least 2,500 feet, maybe more (just guessing), but worth it after you head out of the woods, through glorious meadows with flowers and marmots. Awesome trip.
