Merritt Lake was as promised...2100 feet elevation gain that seemed like less. Caught lots of small Brookies but nothing over 6 inches. Mosquitoes were TERRIBLE - left early to avoid any more hours of their swarming and biting. Lost Lake was also as promised...VERY steep decline to get to the lake but well worth for the beauty and isolation. The "highlight" of the trip might have been the 2AM visit of a roving herd of vicious grizzlies looking to make us a snack - ok, it was 2 Elk at 2 different times in the night but they were noisy (huffing and snorting) and about 2 feet from our tent and I was terrified (didn't figure out until we saw tracks in the morning what it was).
