Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands
Shark Reef Sanctuary by Lost&Found
More of a nice stroll than a hike, this short journey through the woods and along rocky bluffs overlooking the water gives you a sampling of the PNW's best in one sweet visit. Peekaboo views of mountains, turbulent tides (and tide pools!), barking seals, interesting rock formations, trees that have survived many a harsh storm and even a lighthouse across the narrow gap between islands. This is a gem of a county park, suitable for all ages and capabilities (even met a pet pig named Kermie who was nice enough to take his parents out for a walk, lol). Easy access, good parking and privy at the trailhead. Trail a little rooty at points and rocky if you choose to get closer to the waters edge.
