Trip Report

Mount Ellinor — Saturday, Jul. 1, 2017

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

Hiked Ellinor from the lower trailhead. Trail is snow free almost to the winter/summer trailhead. We took the summer trail as the glissade chutes of the winter trail are mostly no longer useable due to exposed rocks. The summer trail is not snow free yet. We crossed significant snow getting up to the diagonal stairway which is about half free of snow. Above that point the trail is mostly snow free until you reach the summit area. The summit itself is melted out. There were several goats around the summit.

It was disappointing to see the USFS Ranger and his assistants short cutting a switchback on the trail. To give them the benefit of the doubt, they may have not seen where the trail went, but we had no trouble following it.
