Big Tree Trail — Sunday, May. 28, 2017

Olympic Peninsula > Kitsap Peninsula
Footbridge at the stream crossing

Decided to hike this short trail after watching a play at the Kitsap Forest Theater (check them out - Wizard of Oz was a really great show)! We are members of the Mountaineers and really enjoyed reading about the history of the theater, the Mountaineers Players, and this large plot of land that contains Big Tree Trail.

The trail was short and it was not strenuous. It only took about twenty minutes roundtrip to complete, but was still a nice walk through old growth forest, over a stream, and to the 'big tree' which is one of the top ten biggest douglas firs in the world. It's 30ft in circumference and the trail ends at the tree. There is a sign to remain on one side of the tree, as the other side is on a creek bank and slowly eroding; made worse by people habitually stepping on the area. We kept our distance, and really enjoyed the trail.
