What a wonderful trip! I was supposed to meet a friend in Long Beach, and I was in Cape Disappointment. Since we were supposed to be heading to Leadbetter, I was hesitant to drive, but it was way too far for me to make it on foot. So I rode my bike for this one, and boy was it lovely. Being able to weave through sand dunes on a paved trail provided an excellent way to see the beach and the coastal forest, and the landmarks along the way were a nice addition. The gray whale skeleton is quite cool (though I do wish it was a full skeleton instead of just the spine) and Clark’s tree is weathered and twisted – really neat. If you are staying in Cape D, I think this is a must-do trail. If you're in Ilwaco or Long Beach, it's a nice way to spend part of your day. Highly recommended.
