This is a great payoff hike. t's only about 3 miles to the big Watson Lake. Very beautiful area. The lakes are great. Camp at the second one but take the time to search out your site as some are more private and scenic than others. I counted 6 waterfalls falling into my part of the lake from snowfields of Mount Watson high above but very visable (they slow after dark and kind of whispered me to sleep.)
An Osprey constantly circled his abundantly stocked private fish market. Choosing only the best , maybe to take home to Momma and Baby. Bugs were swarmy morning and early evening but I only got a very few bites.
This is one hike where the uphill portion is on the way back.
ONE THING: Look at this pic of Baker. Something looks wrong. Could that be a Lahar running from the
crater? It runs all the way to the snowline, a mile or two (I'm guessing) If anyone saw this or knows what
it is. I'd sure like a comment below.

Debris Avalanche ~ May 2016
Hi there! Saw your comment about the mudflow on Mt. Baker. Hiked to Watson Lake 7/31/2016 and reviewed the trip reports. This was thought to be a debris flow avalanched that occurred sometime on or about May 25, 2016 as recorded by our seismometers at the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. Here is a link to the blog: https://cms.pnsn.org/blog/2016/06/15/another-debris-flow-avalanche-at-mount-baker
Good observation!
