The mileage given in the trail description is based on starting from the Sheep Canyon Trailhead - on FR 8117. I tried going up FR 8117 and gave up as it is well overgrown with trees hitting all sides of my vehicle. Sheep Canyon can be accessed from the Blue Lake Trailhead at the end of FR 8123 , and it is a wonderful walk, but be aware that the Sheep Canyon trail starts 3 miles from the Blue Lake trailhead.
