I hiked this trail for the first time today with my kids (ages 3 & 6). This trail has so much diversity! You hike through areas that are bare and rocky and then into wooded areas near ponds. There is not much elevation gain which made this an ideal hike for littler legs. There are spots on the trail that have loose ash and rocks and can be a bit slippery on the downhill. There is also one tiny section that I was a little nervous to have the kids hike on because it was near one of the cliffs, but they were fine and I was just being an overprotective mom. It seems during the day on a weekday was a perfect time to go as we only crossed paths with 3 other groups of hikers during our entire 2.5 hour trip. It won't take most people that long to complete the hike, but my kids like to stop every 5 seconds to inspect bugs and their surroundings! Also, I didn't notice any restrooms at the trailhead, so be sure to stop off at the Forest Learning Center before or after. They have public restrooms and the exhibits are free and fun so it's worth the stop!
