Spokane River Centennial State Park Trail — Saturday, May. 7, 2016

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene
Spokane River
If you find yourself in Spokane with some time to kill and in the spirit of the 5-9 article in the latest WT magazine, this is a good walk morning or evening. This trail runs all the way from the downtown area to Coeurd'Alene. The segment we sampled was accessed behind the Valley Mall. Go to Indiana St, behind the mall then turn on Mirabeau way. There are 2 parking areas. We picked the 1st one, before crossing the river, just so we could walk across the cute bridge. We walked west toward town, stopping to take pictures of the many wildflowers blooming now. The trail walks thru chokecherry and ninebark, now in full bloom, then thru Ponderosa pine, then thru open areas. Lots of river views and good river access, with trails down the bank. We hiked until we crossed the river close to the 13 mile marker, had some water on a bench, then walked back. Flowers: desert buckwheat, lupine, blue flax, balsamroot, desert parsley, brodiaea and remnant of old homestead gardens with lilacs and iris.
