Hike #10 of 52 Hike Challenge 2016. Interesting hike. Nice long hike with no elevation gain but pretty uneven ground. There is still much debate over what actually created these mounds but the 2 most popular are either glacial melting or ancient river bed features. Trail starts off with a half mile paved trail leading to an interpretive display and raised lookout. The trail leads off meandering through the mounds and then trail turns into unpaved paths. Very natural, lots of birds, bugs, varied vegetation. Standing out in the center of the mounds we were surrounded on all sides by the dark green conifers and grey-black mountains. We saw and heard many song birds. Because of the impending rain, there were not many people in the park so it was very peaceful out there with the wind blowing and birds singing. We came full circle and the trail lead through the trees the last half mile.
