Trip Report

Lake 22 — Monday, Aug. 10, 2015

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
We hiked to Lake 22 this afternoon, leaving the trailhead around noon. Our party included two kids and our 15 month old German Shepherd. For the most part the trail is clear and as expected. We did encounter some challenges when we reached the talus slope; be aware that there are some areas along the slope where the footing might make your dog nervous (or your children). This being a popular hike, we were happy to see a lot of people and dogs on the trail. I was disappointed to see several off leash dogs, despite the posted signs at the trailhead. Our total hike time was about 4.5 hours. If you do this trip on a sunny day, do remember to bring plenty of water. The middle portion of the trail is very open, and without shade it does get very hot along that stretch.
