Wonderful hike. We used our GPS and the map, and the hike was closer to 13.5 miles than 12. We were essentially big free. We left from the Berry Patch trailhead and headed to Goat Lake through Jordan Basin. The wildflowers were in full force about 2.5 miles to Goat Lake, and then past it for another two miles. I recommend going up the Jordan Basin way because you are shaded from the morning sun. Plus, the surprise views you get of St Helens, Adams, and Rainier are breathtaking.
Great looking backcountry sites along the way if you don't want to do a day trip. This is a must-hike!!
