Iceberg Point — Saturday, May. 9, 2015

Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands
First time visiting Lopez island today, and it was a beautiful sunny day. Caught the 6:20 am ferry from Anacortes (whew that was early) and the boat was only half full. Once on Lopez we took our time reaching iceberg point. Stopped in Lopez Village to fill up on coffee and wonderful pastries @ HollyB's bakery. My 19 month old son loved the cinnamon roll of course. We then drove to the agate beach/iceberg point parking area. It is pretty small and in a residential area so I'd imagine it can get pretty crowded in the summer. Luckily we were one of only two cars at the TH. (Sidenote: of all the TH privy shacks I've been to, this had to be the cutest and nicest. It was painted warm colors complete with flowers and magazines inside)' Onto the trail itself, you start out walking down the county rd a bit until you reach unpaved flint rd. You pass a couple of homes and reach a sign for iceberg pt with an old rusty saw to your right, then you enter forest for about a quarter mile. The path quickly opens up to grass and wide rocky bluffs all around. There were some wildflowers blooming and we decided to eat a small snack at the white survey marker. We watched harbor seals down below with an amazing view across the channel to the Olympics. We couldn't have picked a better day. I think we'll go back to explore more later when my son is older and can stay longer. He passed out on the walk back to the car :) oh and don't forget to wave when you pass motorists and cyclists, everyone is so friendly on Lopez!
