Trip Report
Ira Spring Trail - Mason Lake, Talapus and Olallie Lakes — Saturday, Apr. 25, 2015
Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
We took two cars out for the hike and dropped one off at the Ira Spring Trailhead and then drove to the Talapus and Olallie Lakes trailhead. We headed up toward Talapus and when we reached Olallie lake we turned toward Mason lake. Somewhere around Talapus lake, we started to encounter some snow. By the time we reached Olallie there was about 6 inches of snow on the trail. Throughout most of the trail until we started to descend on Ira Spring Trail we encountered 6-12" of snow. Some open locations free of any canopy were even deeper. It snowed heavily several times during our trek.
This is a great reminder to always come prepared for a spring hike. We had not planned for anything like this depth of snow. And while it was beautiful, it could have been treacherous if the wind had picked up. We had our physical map and there are key landmarks in this area, but the trail could have become harder to find.
It was a gorgeous, snow-covered adventure. Just be prepared for remaining snow on parts of this trail.

Thank you!
Thanks a lot for the trip report. It makes me feel better about turning back instead of continuing our trip. Thanks again for taking the time to write this.
