Summit Lake — Saturday, Apr. 4, 2015

Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
A group of 6 people with 4 dogs hiked to Summit Lake. The weather was beautiful with breathtaking views. Unfortunately, Mt. Rainier was not visible due to high level clouds but a great hike nevertheless. Some friends in our party wore tennis shoes and paid the price. Those of us with boots stayed dry and warm. At the lake, the snow became deeper than expected, so we spent a short period for photo opportunities and then headed down. There was snow from beginning to finish. We started late, at 10am, only encountering 2 other groups. This would be a lovely summer hike to add on your list. The road leading to the trail head was filled with snow at the last mile, but otherwise passable. The road had usual potholes and random high poking rocks, but passable when driving with care. My Subaru had no problems.
