Trip Report

Panorama Point Snowshoe — Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise
We had beautiful blue skies for this trip. Adams, St Helens and Hood were all out and looking lovely! The park didn't open the gate until 10:30am unfortunately which made the day a little short. I had my split board and my friend had his telemark skis but there were plenty of people out hiking and snowshoeing. Most of the route featured wind swept terrain with hard pack snow so snowshoes would only be useful for a few pockets of powder as well as for the additional traction on the numerous icey areas. The route up to Panorama Point was fairly icy in spots but we managed to do it in our ski boots. Although crampons or some form of additional traction would've made it feel a lot more secure. The way back down to Edith Creek took us a little while to figure out. We wound up going pretty far east and finding the summer Skyline Ridge trail to drop down since the more direct route was too steep for our liking.
